The Ekon – Greek Music and Performing Arts Festival is an artistic event seeking to explore the world of art through the lens of Greek culture. It aims to become a meeting point where artists and performers from around the world can engage in performances that reflect their talent, artistic outlook and originality. It is also the first festival dedicated to introducing Greek contemporary arts to a British audience and warmly welcomes all spectators to an amazing feast of the senses.
We invite proposals for participation in the Ekon Festival 2009 from (a) artists, performers and groups of Greek background who are primarily based in or retain links to the UK and (b) artists, performers and groups of other cultural or linguistic background who are interested in exploring and/or presenting different aspects of Greek culture through their work.
The Festival particularly welcomes young and upcoming artists and performers, as well as young talent over the age of 14. It also encourages collaboration among artists and invites them to present work that offers a unique artistic perspective or explores new artistic pathways. It seeks to be as open to the new as it will be light-footed. The Festival is committed to diversity and quality, and aims to create a dynamic space where artists can work together in a stimulating environment, in which they can pioneer their work, reveal their creative abilities and present different expressions of Greek culture, not only traditional but also contemporary.
