EKON FESTIVAL – London Greek Dance Group

Saturday 22nd May 2010, 12:30pm
Westfield Centre
Ariel Way, London W12 7SL

Crossing the boundaries between past and present, old and new, ‘Ekon Festival – London Greek Dance Group’ is made up of 8 outstanding dancers and 6 of London’s best up and coming dance talents brought together especially for this event by their passion and enthusiasm for Greek folk dance. This performance is the first collaborative work between Lyra Greek Dancers and the Greek CS Dance Group at St. Cyprian’s, presenting a selection of dances from the Greek islands.

Founded in 2008, Ekon Festival celebrates contemporary Greek culture through a diverse programme of music and performing arts that ranges from popular instrumentals and experimental music to contemporary theatre, dance and multimedia, bringing together a broad spectrum of artists from the UK and beyond.

London-based ‘Lyra Greek Dancers’ began in 1986 and were formed of Greek and British enthusiasts committed to keeping authentic traditional Greek dancing, costumes and music alive (www.lyradancers.org.uk). With an extensive repertoire of Greek dances, Lyra has over 300 performances to its credit, including Cantonegros festival in Spain and the Royal Festival Hall.
